Working with the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), Agility3 recently delivered a virtual environment enabling civil engineering company, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure to demonstrate their concept for how a variable speed limit through proposed motorway works could safely be implemented.
The environment developed by Agility3 represented a stretch of motorway with a contraflow system in place. The environment included a variety of innovative smart motorway signs that would warn road users and reduce the speed limit in the event of an incident.
The virtual motorway environment was used within TRL’s portable Driving Simulator, DigiSim, on the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure stand at the Safer Highways UK event at Silverstone in September 2019. The simulator enabled delegates from the industry, including those from Highways England, to experience what it would be like to drive through the works with barriers and signage configured to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure’s contraflow design and to learn how safety would be maintained and the traffic managed in the event of an incident.
