For a recent project, our 3D visualisation experts at Agility3 worked with specialist LNG training company, GTT Training Ltd, to develop a 3D visualisation to enhance the fidelity of their “G-Sim” Liquid Gas Handling Simulator product. Following delivery of the integrated visualisation application by Agility3, GTT Training is now offering this additional functionality to their clients. The video below demonstrates how the 3D visualisation application integrates with “G-Sim” and shows some of the effects it can visualise.
GTT Training initially approached Agility3 with a requirement to develop a 3D visualisation application that would integrate with their “G-Sim” product. “G-Sim” is a Liquid Gas Handling Simulator, used by GTT Training clients, which replicates the operational system used to manage the movement of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) around an LNG cargo vessel. The simulator allows operators to train realistically with an operational system very similar to that used in the real-world.
One element that was missing from “G-Sim”, however, was the ability for the operators to visualise, through a simulated CCTV feed, the bunkering area where the process of connecting pipes from an external source to the cargo vessel is situated and through which the subsequent transfer of LNG takes place. This is something that operators have access to in the real-world and hence GTT Training were keen to add this functionality to the simulator. Agility3 were contracted by GTT Training to develop the 3D application to provide the required functionality.
Agility3 developed a 3D visualisation application, using 3D modelling and gaming technology, which is fully integrated with “G-Sim”. The application provides the operator with a highly realistic graphical representation of the bunkering area similar to the view they would be presented with in the real-world through a CCTV feed. The 3D visualisation reflects the status of the LNG system based on the actions that the operator takes within “G-Sim” including the connection and disconnection of pipes, the effects of frosting and defrosting, fault scenarios and the ability to speed up and slow down the simulations time.
The final result is something with which both GTT Training and Agility3 are extremely satisfied.
“The completed application has surpassed our expectations with regards to the quality of the visualisation that is provided and initial reaction from our clients has been very positive. The enhanced functionality will further improve the fidelity and add significantly to the value of the training that G-Sim can be used to provide. The professionalism and 3D visualisation expertise of Agility3 played a key part in ensuring that the application was completed to a very high standard in a relatively short time frame.” said Ray Gillett, General Manager for GTT Training Ltd.
